Drug Store Romeos

Hampshire based trio Drug Store Romeos make ethereal pop music which is a far cry from the indie mainstream of 2020. With four singles to date, the bands latest release ‘Jim, Let’s Play’ contains gorgeously dreamy alt-pop vocals combined with minimal hard hitting instrumentation.

With the band finding themselves alongside the likes of PVA, Yard Act and Holly Humberstone on DORKs Hype List 2021. And an announcement of four socially distanced live dates leading to one show, London, selling out in record time. 2021 is shaping up to be a big year for Drug Store Romeos.

Ciara Lindsey (Kynsy) has taken 2020 by storm with her two stand out singles ‘Cold Blue Light’ and ‘Happiness Isn’t a Fixed State’. A multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer, Kynsy also self directed her own music video. A provocative and witty visual portrayal of her latest single.

Thought provoking and punchy, Kynsy has established herself as a bold and accomplished artist. Touching on major topics such as loneliness, racism and mental health, Kynsys music is fitting and reflective of 2020.

This artist has begun to carve out a name for herself in a relatively short space of time. A sure sign of whats to come as she progresses into 2021 full speed ahead.

The Rills

In an ever evolving age of online interactions dictating day to day life. From social media to zoom calls and live streamed gigs. The Rills are adopting and carving a niche path to indie fame. With over 100k followers and 2.5 million likes on TikTok the band have forged a fanbase by merging their humorous take on indie culture with a catalogue of exceptional singles.

The result is their latest release ‘Stardog’ (released on the 25th of November.) Which sees The Rills solidify themselves as a no frills indie rock trio. The track narrates the lives of small time drug dealer in villages. Combining bold and raucous vocals with gritty guitar and repetitive drums to make a crowd pleasing indie tune.

This band will no doubt tear up venues when they’re next allowed to play live, but for now grab a dark fruits and check out their TikTok, trust us it’s hilarious.

Off the back of their self titled debut album released in October 2020. Working Mens Club are creating quite a name for themselves. The band have received praise from NME, The Guardian and Louder Than War. To name just a few.

Signed to the legendary Heavenly Recordings, Working Mens Club combine the grit of punk with striking vocals and overtones of early synthpop to create a distinctive sound for their debut. The album incorporates past singles such as A.A.A.A A and Valleys with new standout tunes such as John Cooper Clarke and Be My Guest to create a 10 track body of work which demands your full attention.

Alongside Working Mens Clubs musical talent runs their aesthetic distinction. Their album artwork, their music videos and their gritty live shots. Combined this has created a band which are a force to be reckoned with, and we can’t wait for whats to come next.

Yard Act – Artist of the Week

Yard Act

Yard Act are a band changing the landscape of emerging British punk. With just three releases under their belt the Leeds based quartet have already amassed industry acclaim from the likes of Radio X’s John Kennedy and BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq. Not to mention features on Radio X’s ‘New Bangers’ playlist and Spotify’s Hot New Bands and The Punk List.

Their latest release ‘Peanuts’ chronicles an absurd social commentary of a fictional husband murdered via a peanut allergy by his wife. Think Punk combined with nonsensical comedy along the lines of Shooting Stars. However don’t be fooled by Yard Acts comical lyricism, the song has depth with catchy, snaking riffs and relentless snarling beats.

With the announcement of their line of limited edition charity t-shirts, with all profits going to Project Mama, a charity providing birth support for displaced women in Bristol. Firstly, be sure to stream their three releases. Support Project Mama with their amazing new merch line. And keep an eye out for live announcements – Yard Act are a band is not to be missed!
