Belfast’s Mount Palomar returns with ‘Little Fractures’, a captivating collaboration with Amsterdam-based indie act Pip Blom, blending his widescreen electronic production with Pip’s distinct melodic energy.
Following the success of previous single ‘Pass the Parcel’ which landed on BBC 6Music B-List – Palomar’s fourth consecutive 6Music playlist addition – ‘Little Fractures’ continues his ascent as one of the UK and Ireland’s most daring and inventive voices with an ear for cross-genre sound sculpting and an exhilarating unique, modular synth driven live act, complete with live drummer.
Launched today with an accompanying self-directed video ‘Little Fractures’ channels the turbulence, tension, and exhilaration of sexual awakening through an unexpectedly high-tempo, trance-inflected lens.
Mount Palomar explains:
“Little Fractures was written as a conflicted love letter to my sexuality. I had written the opening lyric many years ago; ‘I’ll break the bones on the back of my hand, so I won’t risk touching what I cannot stand.’ I had anticipated that the lyric would end up in some sort of introspective, moody ambient track, not in the context of some odd, little trancey banger.
As I began work on the song, the lyric felt strangely at home at the slightly frenetic trance tempo and the next few lines appeared with ease, with the song going on to reference my struggle to accept my sexuality and the excitement and turmoil of beginning to explore it. The accompanying music video further explores masculinity and femininity, in the abstract, somewhat absurd setting of a Belfast bingo hall.”
The single extends a remarkable run for the Belfast artist, who was recently selected to perform at the BBC Introducing Live event in Belfast this October. He is set to support Fat Dog at the 4,000-capacity Aviva Studios, Manchester, join Maruja on their European tour with shows across Portugal and Spain, and support Warmduscher at London’s legendary 100 Club, a gig that sold out in under 48 hours. Palomar was also invited to curate and DJ at his own new ‘Palomar Presents’ monthly residency in XOYO which started in September, and extends to Eurosonic as a continuation of his residency.
A true multidisciplinary artist, Mount Palomar’s work spans music, film, photography, and visual art, his creative universe built on boundary-pushing experimentation and collaboration. His forthcoming Feeding Frenzy EP, due via tastemaker label Nice Swan Records, further cements his reputation as one of the most fearless and original figures in contemporary electronic music.
