Chappaqua Wrestling is the the lovechild of two best friends, Charlie Woods and Jake Mac. The Brighton-born boys, now Manchester men, hit the ground running with their spectacular debut EP, “EP 1“, self-released last year. It’s the kind of record which is filled with familiarity but also brimming with originality and with a sweet Americana edge, it’s been a great introduction to their further offerings.
“False/Blue”, was the first single released off the EP, and the song that put Chappaqua Wrestling on a wide-scoping radar. Capturing attention overseas, the guys have had high praise from US website, Cereal + Sounds, who heralded them as the ‘British Beach Boys, held together by natural fluidity and effortless talent.” Their brooding, yet jaunty tones have proved to be a strong combination as they played a slew of taste-making festivals this year including The Great Escape, Neighbourhood and Dot To Dot.
Their latest single, Plant Trees, has also been greatly received, winning the attention of BBC Introducing Manchester who invited them in to perform an acoustic version of the song whilst also featuring on Spotify’s ‘Hot New Bands’ playlist. Now, after just rounding off a successful UK tour supporting The Night Cafe, the band have new releases imminent.
“their slacker surf-pop vibes will whisk you away to a seaside resort with the sun on your face.”
